Hi Shari,
Thanks for the heads up on this upcoming exhibition. Frank Lloyd Wright's revolutionary designs are as relevant today as ever. He believed that man-made structures should exist in harmony with nature and created architectural designs that blended seamlessly with the natural environment. Two great examples are Falling Water and Taliesin. His influence can be found in homes throughout the Reno area, designed in Wright's "prairie" style: low profile, with parapet roofs and upper clearstory windows to maximize natural light by day (for energy efficiency) plus deep roof overhangs to shield the interiors from too much sun (thus keeping the interiors cooler during the heat of summer). His interior work combining the extensive use of natural woods and stained glass served as an extension of his design philosophy, by creating balance and harmony between the interior and exterior spaces. This will be a spectacular exhibition at the NMA.
