Watch out how you speak to people, there’s power in group rage. An amazing feat by a small group of concerned citizens has created the first ever growth initiative to be put on the ballot this November.
Stemming from a Washoe County Commissioner meeting on March 11th, the group of advocates for sustainable growth led by Bob Fulkerson were told to “go home and watch OPRAH ” when they asked for the initiative to be put on the ballot.
Wow, look what happens when people get… Continue

Reno’s downtown is continuing to be the happening place. Just approved by the City Council, eight blocks of tear downs or 56 parcels will be developed by two companies, Northern Nevada Urban Development Co. and Golden Eagle Industries. The area comprises blocks and blocks from Virginia Street to Fifth Street to Evans Avenue.
My take on all this, better check out the downtown block party. I own property on Idlewild zoned for townhouses, were keeping it for tomorrow-land. Reno is going… Continue

The FOMC left the Fed Funds rate unchanged at 2.0%. The economy, in the most recent numbers has modestly expanded and these numbers are backed up by household spending firming. The rise in energy prices, housing conditions, is likely to weigh on economic growth over the next few quarters.
The inflation outlook for inflation remains high with continued upward pressure on energy and commodities prices. The FOMC, however, does expect inflation to moderate later this… Continue

You have to be a double economics guru to understand this bill. To quote Vince Farrell of Scotsman Capital Management, we are going to face “the law of unintended consequences”. Exactly what many tax… Continue

A new poll from Housing Predictor indicates that most consumers believe the national real estate market will improve in a short time. About 50 percent of respondents said they believe the real estate market will rebound within the next two years, and 25 percent said conditions will turn around in a year or less. This just went up at Reno Realty Bog. I'm interested in your responses, input, and comments here at ChaseNation:
I’m not quite ready to say that the "sub-prime crisis" is over, but the majority of these loans were 2/28s and most have been flushed out of the system. The early resetting sub-prime loans recast at death interest rates due LIBOR abnomally high rates, which have since subsided. Late sub-primes (and early 5/25 Prime and Alt A) loans are resetting at rates pretty near their… Continue

We are up a whopping 1% over last month in home sales for the county. I’ll take it. Inch by inch we are recovering and it’s good for me. Total sales for the county was 311, Reno alone had over half with 158 properties and Sparks 98.
With building at an all time low nationwide (the lowest since 1985) it looks like the inventory in the city will be leveling off which is a good thing for the resale market but a serious problem for workers. Stats are claiming that 15,000 workers per week… Continue

A super ”anonymous donor” has saved the day for the Thunderbird Lodge by making the critical deadline of June 20th for a 5 million dollar endowment fund. What makes this fund so imp0rtant was that Pulte Homes gave the Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society a 10 million dollar forgiveness waiver for a lien that they had on the property if they could come up with the 5 mil to guarantee the 300K upkeep per year. Looks like that is a done deal and the spirit of George Whittell’s summer estate will… Continue

Gone are the opportunists that fueled the market with quick turnover and fast profits as we witnessed in the period of 2004 through 2006. During this time bountiful and easy money in the market place allowed anyone with a pulse to participate and discover instant wealth. The old adage “easy come, easy go” would describe their demise. The short turnover investor and their ubiquitous wealth have disappeared. Who are the buyers in the market today?
As a real estate agent, I am having… Continue

The South Lake Tahoe City Council is having a meeting on June 17th to discuss the possibility of a Vacation Rental Moratorium in the City of South Lake Tahoe. Apparently there are some angry locals that believe that vacation rentals are the main cause of noise pollution, bear, and parking problems in South Lake Tahoe.
I believe that rules and enforcement will be a much better solution than a moratorium on new vacation rental permits.
I have witnessed more problems with… Continue
