London Calling - Optimism is the cure for the downturn

Posted on January 28, 2009 at 7:15am 1 Comment

Having made a New Year's resolution to only surround myself with friends who look at a cup as half full as opposed to half empty (all my friends at Chase falling into the first group of course) I thought you might be interested to read the following article from today's BBC News.

It is the viewpoint of Sir David Tang the Hong Kong-born, English-educated entrepreneur who founded the clothing chain Shanghai Tang

Entrepreneur. Enjoy!

London Calling – a surprise casualty of the credit crunch

Posted on September 21, 2008 at 4:53am 2 Comments

Well, what a week this has been in the finance world and we all live in trepidation of the coming week I’m sure.

I can’t help thinking that we could all do with a little less news as it serves to stall the property market around the globe. Even the Russian Stock Market had to be halted three times last week and the Kremlin seems to have had to step in with a boost of around $20billion, so even this market, which many in the UK seemed to think was a source of high networth buyers, may… Continue

London Calling - a whole new world of real estate phrases and some encouraging words for UK buyers thinking of moving to the US.

This week, to the great amusement of the UK Press, The Chambers Dictionary, one of the UK’s three best selling dictionaries, announced the list of new words and phrases added to the 11th edition of this famous dictionary, first published in 1901.

In addition to often used UK phrases such as WAG (Wives And Girlfriends of famous sports personalities) were two phrases really only heard in the UK over the past twelve months – yet very familiar to everyone in the US.

London Calling - World's Most Expensive Property Sold in London and the UK Government's Spectacular "own goal"

Posted on August 9, 2008 at 10:00am 3 Comments

Those of you who were at Inman recently will remember Brad Inman talking about the stories of recent record breaking property sales in London, despite the credit crunch.

Whilst we were in the US last month a number of people we met asked about the luxury market in London. I therefore thought you might be interested to know that reports in the papers this weekend say that the sale of an apartment in central London has just been agreed at a price understood to exceed £115m ($230m),… Continue

Los Angeles Times Axes Real Estate Section

Posted on August 6, 2008 at 9:41am 1 Comment

This is my first attempt at blogging from London, but I'm sure I wasn't the only one to read with interest on Inman News that The Los Angeles Times has ceased publication of its weekly real estate section after more than 100 years and this has brought with it large staff cutbacks and the resignation of the publisher, David D. Hiller.

The feedback to the story made… Continue

Hi Annette,
It was so great to meet you, and I'm glad you had a chance to attend Inman Connect in San Francisco. We're lucky to have Mayfair International Realty as our partners in the UK. Best of luck on your whirlwind tour of the USA! I'm sure you'll have some great stories to share with us.
