Too cold for the beach; too little snow to shred on the slopes. That's spring in the mountains! Try some of these ideas for recreation during this "shoulder season:" The snow is light, and the roads are dry, so take your pup for a long walk or ride your road bike to one (or all 5) of the "peaks" in Incline Village: Upper Tyrollian Village, Fairview & Apollo/ Jupiter, Jennifer, Upper Tyner/Dorcey, Lower Tyner/Saddlehorn loop. If you're in training, add the Mt. Rose summit into your workout routine. Take a run along the beach. Hike down to one of the secluded coves along the East Shore. Make the most of inclement weather: dust off and clean up your golf clubs or tune up your mountain bike. And, don't forget the gym - now's the time to warm up for your favorite fair weather sport and get in shape before the season opens.

kristine, thanks for the suggestions. can't wait to get up for the weekend and do some of this... despite my biking avatar i'm really more of a hiker. what's the best secluded cove to hike down to on the east shore for an afternoon on the beach? thanks in advance!
Access is easiest to Chimney Beach, approx. 2.5 miles south of Sand Harbor State Park, on Hwy 28. There are limited parking spaces off road and portable restrooms. Hike along a .5 mile trail leading down to the water. Spend the afternoon on the sand or warm up after a swim in the cool waters of the lake on one of the many giant granite boulders at the waters edge.
